On March 20, 2012, Lurleen A. Gannon began her term as President-Elect of the Massachusetts Women's Bar Association. Ms. Gannon has been an active member of the WBA for many years, and previously served as its Secretary and Vice President of Membership and Statewide Outreach.

 
March 23, 2012

Kurt B. Fliegauf was quoted in a recent front-page Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly article discussing a Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruling holding that an insurer that knowingly and unreasonably delayed offering to settle a claim against its insured, thereby forcing the matter to judgment, must pay $22.6 MM to the claimant based on the underlying judgment against its insured. Mr. Fliegauf said the ruling could have the unintended consequence of encouraging plaintiffs to reject reasonable settlement offers.

Erin K. Higgins and Andrew R. Dennington recently co-authored  "The Rule Against Claims Splitting as a Defense to Legal Malpractice Claims,"  published in the Winter 2012 newsletter of the American Bar Association’s Professionals’ Officers’ and Directors’ Liability Committee.  The article discusses how defense counsel can assert a plaintiff's prior lawsuit as a bar to a subsequent malpractice claim.  Ms. Higgins and Mr. Dennington regularly advise attorneys and other professionals regarding liability and ethics issues.
